Capturing Moments, Not Approval: The Heart Behind My Photography

The other day, someone messaged me asking for the “secret” behind my photography. I smiled because, honestly, there’s no secret formula. When I shoot, I shoot for myself—for what catches my eye and stirs something within me. I don’t frame a shot thinking, “Will people like this?” Instead, I’m asking myself, “Do I like this? Does this moment speak to me?” If others connect with it, that’s a wonderful bonus. But, first and foremost, it has to resonate with me.

Baja, Mexico - Palms.

For me, photography is an outlet, a way to express how I see the world and capture those pieces of life that intrigue or move me. Every shot I take is like pressing ‘pause’ on a memory, allowing me to revisit it and feel inspired all over again. When I look back through my photos, it’s like flipping through the chapters of my life—moments frozen in time, building one on top of the other, reminding me of where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. And that sense of gratitude? It’s deep. Photography has taught me to cherish the experiences I’ve had and the life I’m living.

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget where we were just a few months—or even weeks—ago. But when I scroll back through the years, I’m hit with a wave of appreciation for the journey, the memories, and even how my style and vision as a photographer have evolved over time. So, if there’s any “secret” at all, it’s this: I shoot for the pure joy of remembering, for the gratitude these memories bring into my life.

And I’m incredibly thankful for everyone who finds meaning in my images, especially those who decide to bring one into their home. That support is such a blessing.

This blog has been a way for me to share my perspective. I want to thank each of you who takes the time to read my posts. I know your time is valuable, and the fact that you choose to spend a few moments here means the world to me. So thank you—for sharing in these stories, these moments, and this journey. I’m forever grateful.
